I did my work experience in St Joseph’s national school, just down the road from us !! We started every morning at 8:50 so it was normal time for us on the 10th - 14th of February. We finished up every day at around 2:30. I personally really enjoyed my week here. We started every morning with doing literacy lift off with the first class pupils and we went around and read them a story or else you supervised them on the iPads this went on for about an hour and a half and then we went for a break. Then in the middle of the day we went into the junior infants and did aster with them this was when the had different games sections in each of there groups and they’d rotate every day for example one group would be on play doe and there would be colouring and playing with dolls this went on for about an hour and then we helped them tidy up and then they’d usually do some maths after this so we helped them correct there homework for them we also played some fun games with them and we went dancing!! After this we would have our lunch. In the evenings we would go to the hall, the same week we were there they had these LEGO blocks rented out so a different class would be doing them everyday we would usually go down and help them we usually finished this up at around 2:30 and that would be our day done. Overall I really enjoyed this experience and I would definitely consider this career in the future”

Gaelscoil Uí Riada
★★★★★
“
I worked at Gaelscoil Uí riada for 1 out of the 2 weeks. I am quite adept at Irish plus I went to Gaelscoil Uí Riada for 6 years prior to Spoiraid Naoimh so it was nice to go back to Gaelscoil Uí Riada after a 6 year hiatus. I was working from 8:50-2:30, so the days were nice and short. There weren't a lot of dislikes, mostly likes. For example, seeing my old teachers from the days of old was nice I suppose, I also got to use my Irish a lot so that was very nice as well as it further enhanced my Irish knowledge and skills. I would highly recommend going to Gaelscoil Uí Riada if you're looking for work experience, whether you're a past pupil or not and if you want to put your Irish skills to good use at the same time!”

Scoil an Spioraid Naoimh
★★★☆☆
“
Since Scoil an Spioraid Naoimh was my own primary school, the staff were already familiar with me; but from an objective viewpoint they are all very nice and welcoming people, happy to help any student who wants to do work experience there. I did get some of the teaching experience that I signed up for. The experience was tailored to my own skills; for example, I am talented at art, so I was allowed to give two art lessons to a class. About half the time there was spent doing menial work, though, (correcting copies, sorting paperwork, etc.) and this lost its appeal very quickly. I was also working in the same Second Class group for the full week, so I didn't get a broad experience of all primary school year groups, which I think was a big disadvantage. Overall the experience provided some of what I hoped, but not all of it. It was enjoyable for the five days, but any longer and the enjoyment would have faded very, very rapidly.”

CIT Media Communications
★★★★★
“
I did my work experience in CIT Media Communications Department. I sat in some First Year classes like Creative Image Making, Photography and Lino Printing. I learned the basics of Adobe Illustrator during the placement. Most of the classes were about Graphic Design but I was also able to get into a class for Multimedia. I not only got an insight into media but also student life at CIT.”
