My week at Waterstone's was extremely enjoyable. The quality of service and friendliness of the staff always enhances my visit, as a customer. My work experience placement was as pleasant. The week itself was arranged last minute and the staff were more than accommodating when I approached them. The work was very hands on. Working in a bookshop is no easy task. The staff there go out of their way to assist customers, even going to the trouble ringing publishers to order books if necessary. The amount of walking was huge- one could keep fit by just doing everyday work at Waterstone's! In my opinion, the work experience programme was very well structured. I had a different supervisor every day, and I therefore got a full experience of work undertaken there and of the retail industry. The work included: working on the tills; taking phone calls; shelving books; laying out fabric shelves; experiencing work in all of the different sections; alphabetising books; dealing with customers; labelling stuff; restocking merchandise and diaries etc.; ordering books from and returning books to publishers; laying out sales tables; making sure the different sections were up to standard; and learning about what goes on behind the scenes. Safe to say I had a very busy week! The highlight of my week was when the manager approached me at the end of the week and offered me work for the end of November and the month of December, as Christmas is their busiest time. Throughout the week I received staff discounts and was gifted a book on my departure on the Friday. My week at Waterstone's was my favourite week of work experience. I will definitely be going back there for part-time work in the future!”

Currys PC World was an enjoyable place to work in, especially if you are interested in retailing. You learn many things such as how to display stock and checking the stock list.”
