Your Data and How We Use it
1. What we collect:
TY.ie collects the information you submit when you register for TY.ie i.e. Name, Email Address. We also collect the information you input into your profile including your school and age, however, this information is not mandatory for the user. TY.ie uses the WordPress engine for user and content management and plugin support. By default WordPress does not collect any personal data about visitors, and only collects the data shown on the User Profile screen from registered users. TY.ie also uses Google Analytics and Quantcast to give us relevant information about what a user does on TY.ie and when they do it. This allows us to improve the website by catering first to the more popular parts of the website as well as sharing this information with advertisers. The data collected by these analytics applications include:
- Location based on IP Address,
- Time the user used the website,
- What pages the user went on, what device they used,
- What browser they used,
- What language they viewed the website in,
- What network they were connected to,
- How they found the website (direct link, social media, email, organic search etc.),
- How quickly the website loaded for them.

2. Comments, Questions & Answers:
When visitors leave comments, questions or answers on the TY.ie we collect the data shown in the form, and also the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent string to help spam detection.
An anonymised string created from your email address (also called a hash) may be provided to the Gravatar service to see if you are using it. The Gravatar service Privacy Policy is available here: https://automattic.com/privacy/. After approval of your comment, your profile picture is visible to the public in the context of your comment.
3. Media:
If you upload images to the website, such as a profile picture, you should avoid uploading images with embedded location data (EXIF GPS) included. Visitors to the website can download and extract any location data from images on the website.
4. Contact Forms
When you use a contact form on TY.ie, the details (email address, name, number) you entered are stored for an indefinite amount of time.
5. Cookies:
Like most websites we use cookies. A cookie is a small piece of data sent from a website and stored on the user’s computer by the user’s web browser while the user is browsing. Cookies allow us to improve our website and make your experience of using TY.ie faster and easier. For instance, when you log in, we will also set up several cookies to save your login information and your screen display choices. Login cookies last for two days, and screen options cookies last for a year. If you select “Remember Me”, your login will persist for two weeks. 6. Embedded Content
Articles on this site may include embedded content (e.g. videos, images, external links, etc.). Embedded content from other websites behaves in the exact same way as if the visitor has visited the other website.
These websites may collect data about you, use cookies, embed additional third-party tracking, and monitor your interaction with that embedded content, including tracking your interaction with the embedded content if you have an account and are logged in to that website.
7. Plugins
TY.ie uses a variety of plugins to allow the website to function. These plugins may use tracking cookies to analyse usage on TY.ie. Plugins that require user input store this information for TY.ie’s sole use. The data may be kept anywhere from 30 days to forever.
Beaver Builder products do not collect any personal information from users. However some modules such as videos and maps may allow external collection from the embedded service i.e. YouTube, Google Maps.
When visitors or user view a module such as a Pop-Up, Hustle captures the IP Address for analysis purposes. By default Hustle retains all form submissions and tracking data forever. Also by default Hustle uses cookies to count how many times each module is visualized. Cookies might be used to handle other features such as display settings, used when a module should not be displayed for a certain time, whether the user commented before, whether the user has subscribed, among others, if their related settings are enabled.
8. Email Address:
Your email address is used for TY.ie’s Newsletter, which is hosted and serviced by Mailchimp, when we need to send you updates about the website and for third-party advertisers who wish to send information about their transition year related product or service. Third parties may include advertisers on the website and TY Programme coordinators.
9. How long your personal data is used for:
At the end of your transition year your personal data will most likely not be used again, however, TY.ie retains it for security and if we need feedback from you on your experience using the website or transition year in general e.g. TY.ie Student Surveys. However, once you delete your profile your personal data is no longer used but you will still be subscribed to our newsletter if you opted in. To unsubscribe you use the unsubscribe link in any of the newsletter emails we have sent to you.
10. Personal Privacy Rights:
If for any reason you would like to delete your profile you can do so within your profile section of TY.ie by going into “My Account”. You can also simply email us to do so. You can also change any information provided to us except your username which cannot be changed without making a new account. Similarly, your information can be updated on your profile section of TY.ie or by emailing us. If you would not like your data to be used for advertising then you can continue to use TY.ie without signing up. Please note that the ads you see on the website are not directly targeted using the data you submitted to TY.ie but rather Google’s own algorithms. If you would like to view the data TY.ie has collected on you, you request an export ZIP file from us by emailing info@ty.ie.
